„The Journey is the destination“ is the overall theme for these pieces.
Each picture shows someone in the middle of going somewhere, to search for something or to go to some place or someone to meet.
What they search for is displayed on the right side, but it is not depicted. Instead of only focussing on the destination, the way itself acts as a part of it too.
The first picture shows the way of a small fishing boat thats on it´s way to it´s fishing grounds during the sunset.
The main fishing boat is the side fin in the middle, another boat is the fin on top, an iceberg is the bottom fin.
The waves form the scales, the beach is the head of the fish, with the lighthouse acting as its eye.
Lastly the lights of the sunset create the tail fin.
The second picture is the journey of an animal photographer who tries to get pictures of a bear in Alaska.
He first gets to a cave (head) then moves through a forest (body) over a chopped part of the woods (first leg), and then he continues through another part of the forrest (body) and will cross a river (second leg). After that he will find the bear at a honeycomb (tail).
The overall design of the second picture is that of a carpet and it gives more clues.
The zigzag patterns that surround the bear are his footsteps, which the photographer follows. The background shapes form two things: the alaskan flag, which is the big dipper constellation plus another star, as well as the great bear constellation overall. Side panels show how to secure your food against bears in the wild. Mountains and fish ornament the corners while shanties surrounded by rivers and wildlife ornament the top and the bottom.
